Project Runway Season 5 Episode 12

Project Runway Season 5 Episode 12This most recent episode of Project Runway seems to have reinforced what I have been thinking for a while now; this has been one weird season. Just when you think you know what is going to happen, the judges, acting completely independently of conventional wisdom, throw a curve into the mix and really do something unexpected.

The challenge this week was to create an evening gown inspired by the flowers and green space of the New York Botanical Gardens. Once in the garden, the designers were met by Collier Strong who gave the designers their instructions.

The winner of the challenge was Jerell, and like with so many challenges this season, the win seemed based not so much on how great the design was but more how poorly everyone else had done. Don’t get me wrong, Jerell did make a really cute design, but he really didn’t finish.

So then comes the big surprise; no one is out. That’s right. When it came time to announce who would be going home, the judges throw a curve ball and announce that all four designers will be creating a collection for Fashion Week, but that only three will actually get to show their collections. All four designers will still have to compete for the chance to show their collections at Fashion Week.

To add to the weirdness of the episode was the segregation of Kenley from the other designers. Apparently the designers had enough of Kenley’s rudeness and arrogance and split themselves off, working across the room from her and when it was discovered that Kenley had accidentally left some material behind at Mood, none of the other designers would help her, even though both Jerell and Korto had the same material that they weren’t going to use. I can’t say I blame them. Kenley hasn’t made herself someone who you might want to help, but luckily for Kenley, Tim wasn’t holding a grudge like the designers, and he permitted her to go back to Mood to find her missing fabric, which she did.

Next stop, Bryant Park. What will happen next, I can’t even imagine. I’m going to make the guess that Leanne and Korto are going to get to show their collections. I think the elimination is now between Kenley and Jerell. But really, anything can happen and probably will.
