Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs To Receive Home State Honor
Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs are slated to be honored by the group's home state. The band has been tapped to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Charlotte Music Awards. The event, described as North and South Carolina's own version of the Grammys, is set for the NC Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, North Carolina Thursday night. Band frontman Williams is a native of Lancaster, South Carolina, and he now lives and performs regularly in Charlotte. Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs are perhaps best known for the hit "Stay," which spent a week at the top of the Billboard pop singles chart in November 1960. But the Williams-penned tune wasn't just a goldmine for his group. Several artists have covered the song, including the Four Seasons, The Hollies, and Jackson Browne, and they all had success with the track.
