Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle" broke into the Top 40. 1976 - England Dan & John Ford Coley's album "Nights Are Forever" was certified Gold. 1977 - Billy Joel's album "The Stranger" was certified Gold. 1978 - Disco hit "The Midnight Special" with appearances from Chic and Sylvester. 1979 - Barry Manilow's "Ships" peaked at number nine on the pop singles chart. 1982 - Michael Jackson released the album "Thriller." 1984 - Lionel Richie's "Penny Lover" peaked at number eight on the pop singles chart. Chicago's "You're The Inspiration" broke into the Top 40. 1990 - Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" hit number one on the pop singles chart. Janet Jackson's "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" broke into the Top 40. 1992 - Austin, Texas, became the first city to ban the sale of Madonna's book "Sex," saying it was obscene. 1993 - Donna Summer's albums "Bad Girls" and "On The Radio, Volume 1 and 2" were certified multi-Platinum, while Tears For Fears' album "The Hurting" was certified Gold. 1994 - Boyz II Men's album "II" was certified multi-Platinum. 1995 - Lisa Loeb's album "Tails" was certified Gold. 1996 - Elton John's album "Love Songs" was certified Gold. 1999 - Lou Bega's album "A Little Bit Of Mambo" was certified triple Platinum. 2004 - Alicia Keys helped bring awareness to World AIDS Day at an event in New York City. The "Pusher's Ball" also featured Babyface and Lenny Kravitz. ABC aired the special "Nick and Jessica's Family Christmas." The show featured a reunion of Nick Lachey's boy band 98 Degrees, and the first public duet between Jessica Simpson and sister Ashlee. 2007 - Former "American Idol" finalist Jessica Sierra was arrested outside a Tampa, Florida nightclub. She was reportedly taken into custody for four counts including cocaine possession and battery.<
