Classic Rock, Pop To Enter Grammy Hall Of Fame
Some noted rock and pop recordings are being included in the Grammy Hall of Fame. The Recording Academy has named 28 new entries for its archives. The wide range of singles that have made the cut this time around include Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young's 1970 classic protest song "Ohio;" Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama;" Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life;" and Sam The Sham and The Pharaohs' "Wooly Bully." Other tunes making the cut include Jimi Hendrix's "The Star-Spangled Banner," Queen's "We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You," The Ramsey Lewis Trio's "The 'In' Crowd," and Harry Belafonte's "Banana Boat (Day-O)." Recognized albums include Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You," the Dave Brubeck Quartet's "Time Out," and Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters."
Country, Latin, film, Broadway musical soundtracks, and classical recordings are also being added to the growing list, which now boasts 826 titles. The new Grammy Hall of Fame recordings will be recognized during this Wednesday's CBS special "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!" with B.B. King and John Mayer teaming up for a collaborative performance of the honored song "Let The Good Times Roll." In addition, all the Grammy Hall of Fame material will be featured at the new Grammy Museum at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, which will open Saturday.
