OK Go's CD Title Reflects Optimism Amid Adversity
The members of OK Go admit it's a challenge to write optimistic songs when things aren't going so well. Singer Damian Kulash notes that in order to accomplish the task for the CD "Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky" the band just had to trust their message. Kulash notes that the album's title stemmed from this concept of believing in what they were doing, and was inspired by retired Army General Augustus James Pleasonton's book "The Influence Of The Blue Ray Of Sunlight And Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky." The rocker explains that Pleasonton thought he had proven blue light is the essential life force, and believed that exposure to blue light could do things like cure illnesses and accelerate plant growth. He says that while Pleasonton's theory was debunked a few years later he still admires the general for trying to do something for the greater good of mankind, and for believing he really was saving the world. Kulash adds that to write songs for the album "Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky," OK Go had to find the same kind of faith in their work that Pleasonton had in his efforts.
